Know What's Not Cool at the Pool

We are firmly in the midst of summer here in the Rio Grande Valley. That means more free time to get outside and enjoy the opportunities to get away from work and school. It also means everyone will be looking for a way to beat the heat, which can be a bit intense in the McAllen metro area, to say the least.

Your management team at Villa Regale luxury apartments in North McAllen knows that one method for staying cool under the summer sun is to spend a day at the pool. And that is exactly where you’ll find many of our residents during the hottest days of the year.

While a dip in the pool can be the ultimate gratification on a scorching summer day, when sharing the pool with others, there are a number of guidelines that should be followed out of respect for everyone enjoying the community pool.

Keep an Eye on Your Kids

The pool is a great place for the whole family to relax and have a good time, but you can’t let your guard down completely. There is always the potential the potential for an accident to occur, especially with so much water around and the floor slippery. It is essential that you keep an eye on your little ones to keep them safe while still having fun.

You should also make sure that they are not disturbing anyone else around the pool. Everyone deserves the right to feel comfortable and not have to worry about being bothered by others (even little children).

No Big Splashes

As much fun as it might be for someone at any age to launch themselves into the water, there is never an acceptable time to splash people you don’t know. Cannonballs and belly-flops should be avoided in a community pool. Make sure everyone in your group or family is using the steps and ladders installed in the pool.

Keep It Down

It’s natural to laugh loudly when having a good time and to even want to enjoy your favorite music by the pool. However, these activities should never interfere with neighbors who are trying to enjoy a little quiet time themselves. Regardless of how much fun you are having, be sure that the noise you make isn’t taking away from someone else’s day at the pool.

Follow the Rules

It seems simple enough, but many people don’t take the time to read the rules posted at a swimming pool or they simply choose to ignore them completely. While it may seem like no harm is being caused, the pool rules were put up for a reason -  to keep everyone safe and eliminate issues between people at the pool.

Make sure you and your guests are following the rules so that everyone can enjoy a day by the water.

Your Access is Your Access

Hanging out with friends by the pool is fun for everyone involved but that doesn’t mean that they should be able to come and go as they please - especially if they don’t live there with you. Keeping your access code to yourself prevents the possible snowball effect of people passing that information along to other non-residents of your apartment complex,

Don’t Invite Everyone You Know

The pool at an apartment complex is intended to be used by the people living there. While that doesn’t mean you can’t have the occasional guest over, it does mean that having them over all the time can be viewed as discourteous to your neighbors. Try to find a balance that works for everyone.

Glass Does Not Belong Near a Pool

Enjoying a nice cool drink is a great complement to splashing around in the water or lounging poolside. However, glass containers or anything else breakable, should not be used for drinks or any other reason.

Not only can broken glass injure people, as many go barefoot when walking around the pool, but it can also cause the pool to close down for a few days while everything is cleaned up for safety reasons.

Be Clean

This is the most important guideline to follow when using a community pool. This covers many things, including the way you act and dress at the pool. It is not okay to be vulgar by cursing or swearing or engaging in excessive PDA with a significant other.

Because the poolside is often a family setting, you should dress appropriately for the occasion as well.

Rinsing off before getting into the pool is another habit of common courtesy everyone should participate in. This eliminates the possibility of suntan lotions and other skin and hair products washing off into the pool.

Keeping the pool water clean should be on your mind while you’re there enjoying yourself and cleaning your area around the pool should be on your mind before you leave. There is no excuse for leaving your mess behind.
